Keyword Targeting - Why It Is Important in Adwords
Okay, here’s what this blog post is all about. The former blog post was about how to create your ad, but this one is the one I promised you that gives you an effective way to bid on keywords and your keyword targeting. When you create your ad, Adwords will ask you to bid on specific keywords, or keywords that people Google, and on top of the Google page and in the upper right-hand column is where your ad will appear. It’s quite important that you get the correct specific keywords that you are sure people will Google so that when they see your ad they will click on it because they already know that it is what they want.
Keyword targeting is also important because it improves your Click Through Rate (CTR). The higher your CTR is the better. Your goal is to have at least 1% CTR and the higher than that the cheaper you pay for the ads, the higher Google puts your ad on top of the page.
You don’t have to bid on hundreds and hundreds of keywords. Just bid on the most specific keywords that you can think of. If you don’t narrow it down, you are not sure if the person that will click your ad is looking for your services or not and you just paid for their click, you may have just threw money down the drain.
For example you are selling a product about a weight loss pill. You bid on a keyword, “Exercise and weight loss,” what happens is, someone who will Google that may not be looking for a weight loss pill but an exercise regimen for weight loss. They see your ad, and just out of curiosity they click on your ad, but they are not willing to buy because it’s not what they are looking for. You just paid for that single click with a very minimal chance of them purchasing your product and you just again wasted your money.
This blog post is for the purpose of correcting that kind of mentality of bidding on a lot more keywords because a lot is not better and you need to specifically target your keywords to make sure the people who really will click your ad is someone who got there because they were already thinking of buying or availing of your services in the first place. I will be digging more into keywords in my next post.
