Copywriting Tips - 10 Magic Words

Copywriting Tips - 10 Magic Words

I love picking up good copywriting tips any chance I get.  Copywriting is a necessary skill when it comes to online marketing.  I have recently been taking the course The Copywriter’s Guild offered through Magnetic Sponsoring and wanted to share the 10 Magic Words of copy that David Garfinkel and Tim Erway share in the first training module.  I think you will find these copywriting tips very useful when writing headlines, sub-headings, opt-in pages, and for lead generation ads.

Warning to Pass Along With These CopyWriting Tips!

They did give a warning that I will also pass along to you.  These magic words are not always the best when used in auto-responders.  These words are also used by spammers and may cause you to get a high spam score; therefore, not allowing your auto-responder messages to go through.  So be careful when using them in email.  Aweber and GetResponse both have a great tool that uses SpamAssassin to check your spam score, you can quickly check the spam score of your email before you send it.

Now, let’s digg into these copywriting tips and get to those magic words. icon smile Copywriting Tips 10 Magic Words

CopyWriting Tips – 10 Magic Words

1. Free – This one is one used a lot by spammers, so do be careful if you use this in an auto-responder email.
2. You/your – Make sure you are using the word “you” twice as much as you are using your own name.  “Your” is also mentioned by Tim as having increased conversions on an opt-in page by 3%.  For example, instead of saying, “download this free audio,” you may want to think about saying, “download your free audio.”
3. Announcing – David refers to the word “announcing” as a news word, as well as Nos. 4 and 5.  All three apply to something that wasn’t happening before that is now.
4. Introducing – News word
5. New – News word
6. Secrets -  If you have knowledge about something your customers don’t know much about, you can talk about it as a secret.  This creates intrigue and causes curiosity to go up.
7. How To — People want to know how to do something.  How To’s are great for videos and articles.
8. Guarantee(d) — I remember Brian Fanale just talking about this on stage at the MyLeadSystemPRO event in Vegas.  People feel vulnerable when buying through ads, especially on  the internet due to the scams out there.  Stand by your product and offer a guarantee.  This will make your customer feel safe and more comfortable making a purchase.
9. Magic(al) — I utilized this in my blog post today, did it work? icon smile Copywriting Tips 10 Magic Words
10. Easy -  David explains the use of the word “easy” this way:  There are two parts to everything, the hard part and the easy part.  In your copy you want to start off selling the easy part.  So find out what’s easy about what you’re selling and start there.

Loving this list! I hate copywriting, honestly it drives me up the wall, yet I do know how important it is to get it right. This is a great list and because of my own lack of wanting to learn more, this has been a great eye opener for me, I’ve never seen it before so really appreciate you sharing :-)

  11. Hi Staci,

Yeah, the copywriter’s guild is awesome! Learned tons of stuff, and it is the center behind my posting, article marketing, and ads. I find it very difficult to write a post, article, etc…using titles and content that say,

    “You Know, Was Just Thinking….”

I see a lot of that and people do not realize what possibilities they are omitting by neglecting to incorporate basic copy writing principles into their copy!

    Great post,
    thanx!

  14. Hi Staci
I was wondering what the ten words could possibly be…
I was pleasantly surprised when I saw them

Particularly like the use of the word “you”.
I blog on Public Speaking and I constantly reming people that a speech is about the audience, not the speaker.
Guess it’s the same in copywriting.

    Thanks for ten great words.
